According to the article 3 of the Duties and authorities of Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, National Standardization in the field of ICT and recommendation of that to whom may concern and type approval of ICT equipment, are two duties of the Ministry’s seventeen parts duties submitted to the CRA based on the article 6 of the association of the Communications Regulatory Authority.

Mentioned table covers standards related to four groups of requirements of compliance (RF, EMC, Safety and SAR) by consideration the following requirements:
• Effective use of radio frequency spectrum for radio telecommunication equipment
• Interconnection of telecommunications terminal equipment with the Public Network

The main principal responsibilities of the Standards and Type Approval department are as follows:

  1. Standardization in the field of communication and information technology and proposing them to the (pertinent) authorities.
  2. Evaluating the announced results in the test report issued by laboratory for deciding about clearing or returning the sample.
  3. Evaluating and issuing accreditation for the local type approval laboratories in the field of communications and information technology surveillance them.
  4. Evaluating and approving the foreign certification bodies and type approval laboratories in the field of communication and information technology in pursuit of cooperating with CRA and supervising them.
  5. Studying and investigating the documents regarding the regional and international standards within the field of communication and information technology.
